Meter Readings

How to Read Your Water Meter

Step 1: Locate the Meter

Find your water meter box, typically located near the front of your property close to the street. The meter is housed in a plastic or concrete box.  Carefully remove the meter box lid—exercise caution while lifting the lid to avoid injury or damage.

Step 2: Read the Meter

Once the lid is removed, open the protective cap on the meter itself. You will see a large dial and a series of numbers on the face of the meter.

  • Each full rotation of the dial represents 10 gallons of water.
  • Read the number display from left to right, including the stationary zero at the end.  This number is your current meter reading. Water usage is measured in gallons, and charges are calculated based on usage rounded to the nearest hundred gallons during each billing cycle.  Compare this reading with the "Current" or "Present" reading on your bill.

Step 3: Compare and Monitor Usage

Please note that your reading may differ slightly from the bill if you're checking it on a different day than the billing date.

  • If your reading is significantly higher, you may have a leak or recent high usage.
  • If your reading is much lower, contact our office—we’ll help investigate any discrepancies.

We recommend checking your meter periodically throughout the month to monitor water use and identify potential issues early. Remember, all water that passes through the meter will be billed accordingly.

Important Billing Notice

The corporation reserves the right to back-bill up to four (4) years in cases of:

  • Meter malfunction
  • Incorrect multiplier application
  • Misread meters
  • Billing calculation errors

Failure to pay the most recent six (6) months of billing will result in service disconnection. We encourage all members to review their monthly statements carefully to avoid billing issues.
